It’s not even Summer yet and it’s scorching hot here in South Florida. The humidity is horrible and the really high temperatures are making it quite annoying. It’s not very fun to go outside and have the leather on your handbags change color or crack. The best type of handbag to carry around during the Summer is a straw tote. They don’t have drastic color changes and the straw stays put for the most part. Even when it’s wet, the straw doesn’t change or get stains on it.

I absolutely adore Tory Burch right now and the “Basketweave” Straw Tote might be the cutest straw tote I’ve seen in a while. What I love most about the “Basketweave” Tote is that it features different colors. This gives anyone the opportunity to wear a variety of colors and finally own a straw bag that has some color to it! Usually straw bags are made in just the base solid color but Tory Burch spruced it up a bit!

I can totally envision someone wearing a long Summer dress and some flip flops when they carry this. It’s fairly easy to find a dress that match those colors and this tote would finish off the outfit.

Just about everyone seems to adore Furla‘s fantastic jelly bags, which have a habit of injecting an outfit with a pop of vivid color and plenty of happy-go-lucky charm. It’s really no wonder, then, that the label has built on the look’s popularity and introduced different versions of it over the past year or so. The new Candy Rubber Satchel isn’t translucent like the jellies, but is made with a similar material and is just as playful as its predecessor. I prefer this version for its opacity, mainly, and because it shows off intense, glossy red – the kind you wish you could pull off on your lips every day of the year – with ease. If Milly hadn’t already won me over ages ago, the label’s Kathryn Embossed Python Clutch would definitely have done the job handily. This is a gorgeous bag, complete with a snappy, snake-printed flap in vivacious purple and a sleek chain strap that can be tucked inside if you prefer the hand-held method. That’s my preference for summer. The dramatic color will still be relevant in the fall, when a shoulder strap looks refined over cardigans and coats. Also in brown. Available for $350 at Nordstrom.

I have to give it up for Deux Lux. Once again they’ve managed to work magic, this time with the Lucky Reversible Sequin Tote, which shows off a beautiful coat of sequins on one side. Turn it inside out if you prefer less glitz and you’ve got yourself a fairly polished looking faux leather tote. The oversized bow detail is a chic detail that feels playfully cute, but could be removed if you’re headed to the office. Available for $106 at Nordstrom.

Since fabulously moody blue is one of spring/summer 2012′s top trends, it only makes sense to pay some extra attention to it right about now. Spring is picking up, you’re gearing up for summer and, well, if you’re like me, you like to invest in a new bag(s) every season. Always at the top of my list is the visionary Marc Jacobs , who once again thrills with the new Wellington Small Fulton Goatskin Satchel. Your look gets an immediate pop of vivacious blue – a sort of turquoise-meets-cobalt – and you also happen to get the functionality of a practical silhouette, complete with pockets galore, a detachable shoulder strap and a timeless design. Nothing rebellious here, folks – unless, just because something has a few studs, you consider it hardcore. Otherwise, this R&Em Rebel Clutch is inaptly named. I won’t fault it, though, because it’s still a pretty cool little bag. I love the spearmint color, the perforated flap and the chic crossbody style. It’s definitely on the small side, but if you happen to require something light for lazy days, this could be a great choice just for the price alone. Available for $75 at Nordstrom.

To bring a purse or not to bring a purse? Now that I have the Brahmin Debi Wristlet Wallet, I don’t even have to consider it. I can stash my debit card, ID, lipstick inside, and then slip my iPhone into the interior cell phone sleeve. Other purses need not apply. Ok, just kidding. They can still apply since this wallet is small enough to fit in a bag as well. Not that we’d want to hide the St. Bart’s Anaconda print. Available from Brahmin for $145.

I’ve never doubted the creativity that Dolce & Gabbana are capable of, but in the past I probably wasn’t as attuned to it as I am now. The designers’ latest collection includes a bevy of delightful bags and dresses, all meticulously crafted with unexpected patterns galore. The new Small Miss Sicily is a really strong example of this: it combines a classic leopard print body with yellow sequined side panels and a jacquard flap. The idea that these three vastly different elements could even begin to mingle without making one or the other look bad is almost impossible, but somehow the D&G crew pull it off perfectly. Another cute clutch from Kate Spade ? This is madness – and I mean that in a good way. Who in her right mind could resist the appeal of the Tiki Bar Cocktail Clutch?
